Can You Brush Too Hard or Too Often?
We all want a sparkling smile and fresh breath, but when it comes to brushing, more isn’t always better. In fact, brushing too hard or too frequently can do more harm than good.
What happens when you brush too hard?
Brushing aggressively wears down the protective enamel layer that shields your teeth. Once enamel is lost, it doesn’t grow back, and you may start to notice:
- Increased tooth sensitivity
- A yellowish appearance (as dentine is exposed)
- Gum recession
In multiple studies it has been shown that excessive force when brushing was linked to higher rates of gingival recession and abrasion of tooth surfaces.
Your toothbrush isn’t a scrubbing brush. And when you add pressure, you’re not “cleaning better,” just damaging your teeth and gums.
What about brushing too often?
While it’s important to brush twice a day, brushing more than three times daily especially right after acidic meals could weaken enamel, as it’s temporarily softened by acids from food and drink. Over-brushing in this state can accelerate erosion.
How NUEOS Supports Gentle, Effective Brushing
At NUEOS, we design every product to encourage intentional, gentle care, with science leading the way. Our tablet-based toothpaste eliminates overuse, each tablet is the perfect dose. Our formulas use enamel-supportive ingredients (like hydroxyapatite) that help remineralise and protect rather than strip. The Light Bath’s red and blue LED wavelengths work with your biology, not against it, to soothe, balance, and support gum health with no scrubbing required.
This isn’t about brushing harder or longer. It’s about brushing smarter, and NUEOS makes that easy.
